We thank Allah and send peace and blessings upon His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Spiritual apathy is something everybody is afraid of and we have all passed through it

First, I would like to tell you that our hearts have two states:

Reception and Rejection

As Ali (RA) said: “Surely hearts are sometimes receptive and other times rejecting. So when it is receptive, perform the recommended extra acts of worship and when it is rejecting, limit it to the obligatory acts of worship.”

However, if the period of spiritual apathy lingers for a long time,

you must find the reason behind your withdrawal

Did you use to make a certain act of charity that you’ve stopped doing now?

Did you use to uphold ties of kinship that you’ve broken recently?

Did you have a certain Wird (act of remembrance) that you used to do but have stopped?

Did you use to pray 2 rakaat (prostrations) at night and have now stopped doing so?

Search for the reason behind you feeling far from Allah for long periods of time.

If your heart is in a rejection state, don’t be sad and get depressed from that fact

It was narrated that Hanzalah Tamimi Al-Usaiyidi, the scribe, said:

“We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and we spoke of Paradise and Hell until it was as if we could see them. Then I got up and went to my family and children, and I laughed and played (with them). Then I remembered how we had been, and I went out and met Abu Bakr, and said: ‘I have become a hypocrite!’ Abu Bakr said: ‘We all do that.’” So Hanzalah went and mentioned that to the Prophet (ﷺ), who said: “O Hanzalah, if you were (always) as you are with me, the angels would shake hands with you in your beds and in your streets. O Hanzalah, there is a time for this and a time for that.”

This is a prophetic answer straight from the mouth of the Prophet ﷺ

May Allah make our hearts ever receptive and never rejecting or away from Him swt.

Peace be upon you.
