Sha’ban: The Neglected Month

With Muslims all around the world preparing for the month of Ramadan, we all tend to forget the importance of the Month right before it, the month of Sha’ban. The scholars say that the Arabic root of the word Sha`ban is “branch”, because of the month of Sha`ban “branches off” leading to many good things. It acts as a bridge between the two blessed months of Rajab and Ramadan. In spite of this, it is often neglected. The Prophetsaid
‘That is a month to which people do not pay much attention, between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which the deeds are taken up to the Lord of the worlds, and I like that my deeds be taken up when I am fasting.”‘ (Hasan)
The Prophet used to fast a lot in the Month of Sha’ban.
“The Messenger of Allah did not fast in any month of the year more than he did in Sha’ban.” (Sahih)
Imam Abu Bakr al-Warraq said:
In Rajab you sow the seeds, in Sha`ban you irrigate them and in Ramadan you reap the harvest.”
So we should all make sure we are reading Quran, Doing our daily Azkar (Daily supplication) and we should try to not waste time. And don’t forget to say this dua:
O Allah grant us barakah in Shabaan and allow us to reach the blessings of Ramadan.”

“اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا في شَعْبَانَ وَ بَلِّغْنا رَمَضَانَ.”
